Treesa M. Cotton, 88, formerly of Sun City, Shadow Hills, The Cotton Patch in Thermal, and Mack's Inn, ID, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021, after a brief illness.

The former Treesa Marie Moore was born in Lansing, Michigan on October, 15, 1932, and married Jack R. Cotton there on December 1, 1950. Shortly thereafter they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and in early 1963 settled in Indio.

Treesa served as Office Manager for Oasis Gardens, Inc. and The Schell Ranch and Packing Co. for many years, before ultimately joining Jack in owning and operating Chief Sign Crafts in Coachella and Thermal. Treesa toiled selflessly for many years, keeping the family financially afloat as Jack established the business. She then worked to make certain her children were independent, and labored side-by-side with Jack as they developed a piece of alkali-soaked, raw desert land into the Cotton Patch Ranch, where she was determined to grow a green grass lawn if it killed her. It was there that she was at her most comfortable: in jeans or shorts and a T-shirt, but that T-shirt was ALWAYS freshly cleaned and pressed.

Treesa was very politically astute, serving on several local boards and committees throughout her life, among them the Friends of the Thermal Airport, the eastern Coachella Valley unincorporated zone, and the Vista Santa Rosa Board. Generally underestimated at first glance, many an opponent was defeated by her sound logic and plain, straight talk. She was quickly respected and always loved.

Treesa also was very busy with the many activities in which Jack was involved, acting as Treasurer/Secretary for the Pheasant Patch Hunt Club, organizing charity drives on behalf of youth in the Coachella Valley, supporting Mexicali orphanages, and generally keeping her husband on task and out of trouble. She was more successful at the later once she found them a summer cabin in the mountains of Eastern Idaho, where Jack was finally content to sit and teach his grandchildren how to fish.

As long as Treesa was physically able, she enjoyed traveling to visit her far-flung family, even though she never got over her fear of flying or learned to swim, and maintained a reverence for clean towels. She enjoyed great adventures and overcame crippling shyness to charm nearly everyone who met her. She achieved her life's goal, set as a simple farm girl in DeWitt: to get out of Michigan and never be cold again.

Jack preceded Treesa in death in 2007. Treesa's parents, George and Minnie (Howard) Moore, as well as sister Patricia Struble, and brothers George H., Carl, and Howard Moore, also preceded her, and were waiting to welcome her home.

Treesa is survived by her daughter Cindy (Robert) Brady of Muskegon, Michigan, and son Gary (Robin) Cotton of Bermuda Dunes; sister Lois Rood of Coral, MI, brothers Robert (Rose) Moore of Eaton Rapids, MI, and Dale (Sharon) Moore of Mesa, AZ; grandsons Aidan (Shannon) and Evan Brady, and Alex (Darcie) and Tyler Cotton, and granddaughter Nicole Nunez; eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is to be scheduled at a later date. Jack and Treesa's ashes will be interred together at Coachella Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mercy Ships or Boys Town. Arrangements by FitzHenry Funeral Home.
