His parents were William Henry Addams (1850-1922) and Cora Virginia Cook (1855-1935). He attended Central University in Richmond, Kentucky. In 1897 he was initiated into the Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu National Fraternity. He competed in oratory contests. He graduated in 1901. For a short time he farmed and then pursued a career in the transportation industry. He started with Green Line Company in 1918 as a streetcar conductor. Later he served as terminal clerk and night foreman before becoming assisstant superintendent in 1937. He retired in 1954 after thirty-six years service with the company. In 1910 he married Gladys N. Milner (1892-1976). From this marriage came William Milner Addams (1911-2002), Eugene B. Addams (1912-1995), Cyrus Cook Addams, Jr. (1918-1988), Gladys W. Addams Harper (1925-1996) and John Franklin Addams (1930-2019). He and his wife are buried in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana, Kentucky.
