Audrey was born in Gainesboro, Tennessee. She was the second child of Millan and Ada Genetry. The Gentry family left Tennessee to find a better life, moving first to Texas and then to Holdenville, Oklahoma, where they farmed.

Audrey's cousin Troy Moreland introduced her to his brother-in-law Dellas Cannon in 1940. Audrey and Dellas fell in love and were married in February 1943 in Yuma, Arizona, where Dellas was stationed at a training camp before departing for the European front with the U. S. Army. Dellas left to join the fighting in France and Germany, and Audrey returned to her parents' home in Holdenville. Dellas returned to the States after the war ended. He tried working in a factory in New York and eventually re-enlisted in the Army.

Audrey and Dellas had three children, a son and two daughters. As an Army family and later a CIA family, the Cannons often moved. They lived in New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, New Mexico, Maryland, and Germany. Dellas and Audrey purchased a home in Waco, Texas, in 1947. She and the three children would return there whenever Dellas was stationed overseas. Eventually, they retired to this home.

Audrey took great pride in her children's achievements. She was the best of mothers! She watched them grow up, graduate from college, and marry well.

Audrey and Dellas enjoyed their retirement years in Waco. And it was in Waco that Dellas died in 1996. Audrey moved to live near a daughter and son-in-law in Carrollton, Texas; but she died four months after Dellas did. They are both buried in Waco.
