The sad news of the death of Robert L. Spangler, of Ingleside, this county, at Westover Hospital Richmond, Va, on Wednesday morning, came as a great surprise and shock to his many friends in this section. He became suddenly and dangerously ill at his home at Ingleside a few days ago and was conveyed at once to a hospital at Richmond for medical treatment where he passed away on Wednesday morning. Our information is that his trouble was a bloodclot on the brain.

Mr Spangler was about fifty-two years of age and was born near Peterstown, Monroe county. He was a son of the late John Q Spangler, who with his family came to this county about forty years ago. His mother was a sister of the late H W Straley, of Princeton. He was married twice, his first wife being a Miss Carr, who passed to her reward about twenty years ago. His last wife was a Miss Finley, of Bland county, Va, to whom he was married about one year ago.

He was a prosperous farmer and accumulated quite a fortune.

He was a member of the Princeton Baptist church. He is survived by his aged mother and one brother, Henry Spangler - Mountain Messenger.

Robert Spangler, of Ingleside, was reported yesterday afternoon to have breathed his last in a Richmond hospital Monday night and to have been buried at Ingleside yesterday morning at 11:30, Rev J A H Shuler and Rev B P Pennington, of Princeton, conducting the obsequies. Mr Spangler was taken to Richmond some three weeks ago for treatment and his death has been expected for a number of days, his family being called to his bedside last week in anticipation of his death, and in fact he was reported to have passed away shortly after their arrival, such information being published in a number of newspapers. Mr Spangler had been ill for a number of months of nervous troubles and was brought to St Luke's Hospital a few weeks ago, this institution referring him to Richmond specialists. The deceased was one of the county's wealthiest farmers and his dignified life was the synonym to his host of acquaintances for honesty and integrity and he will be a man much missed in the community.
