Mrs. Delia Ellen Smith, 89, Langdon Street, Somerset, died Thursday at Britthaven Nursing Home following an illness of several months.

She was born in Jabez on December 27, 1899, the daughter of the late James Alexander Polston and Ellen Popplewell Polston. She was a housewife and a member of Denham Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, James D. Smith and John W. Smith, both of Somerset; one sister, Zella Polston, Los Angeles, California; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Avery Gilmore Smith; one son, Phillip Smith; one daughter, Marcella Smith; two brothers, Wolford and Otha Polston; and seven sisters, Donna Walters, Mary Polston, Cora Polston, Bell LaFavers, Bertha Johnson, Josia Wilson, and Loda Stephens.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company with the Rev. J.S. New officiating.

Burial will be in Polston Cemetery, Russell County.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at Somerset Undertaking Company.
