Marian Laverne Couey
December 29, 1938 ~ December 23, 2020 (age 81)

On Wednesday, December 23, 2020, Marian Couey, a loving, faithful, and devoted wife, mother, sister, beloved aunt, and grandmother, left this earth to join her Father in heaven at the age of 81.

Marian was born to Lucian and Bernice Bracewell on December 29, 1938, in Dublin Georgia. She graduated from Lowery High School in 1956 and married Bobby Couey in 1959. They had one child, Gregory Clyde Couey, born in 1961. They lost Greg to Cystic Fibrosis in 1994. Marian created and has co-hosted the Greg Couey Cystic Fibrosis Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser since the early 90’s and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Cystic Fibrosis cure research.

Marian was a lifelong resident of Dublin, Georgia. She worked for and retired from, The Laurens County School System. She was a lifetime member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as treasurer for many years. Marian was beloved by all who knew her and especially by her nieces and nephews whom she adored. She will be sorely missed. “Aunt Marian’s” Brunswick Stew, Pear Preserves, and especially her Banana Pudding were the highlight of every family get together! Marian loved and enjoyed the Bracewell family farm and generously contributed time and money to sustain the farm for generations to come. Marian also had a passion for travel. She and Bobby explored the world from Alaska to Israel, Europe, and beyond.

Her character was that of strength, patience, virtue, kindness, generosity, loyalty with a compassionate spirit, and a wonderful, dry sense of humor. She never had an unkind word for anyone.

Marian was preceded in death by her son, Greg, her parents Lucian and Bernice Bracewell, and nephew, Jeff Staser. They are all happily together now.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Couey; sisters, Anita Marlatt, Jean Staser, and Hazel Wood; 3 sisters-in-law, Lori Robinson, Lillian Wilkes, and Josephine Hinderaker; Godson, Jacob Gregory McWhorter; daughter in law, Robin McLeod; grandchildren, Kaleb and Jacob McLeod, and nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great grandnieces, and great grandnephews. We are all heartbroken.

Private Graveside services for Mrs.Couey will be held at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
