Grandson of John Belcher, an early settler who came to Gibson, PA in 1794 from Orange County, NY and son of William and Sally A. Davey Belcher. He married Elizabeth Taylor on November 2, 1827 in Gibson, PA and they had eight children: William Edgar (b-1830); Amos (b-1832); Solomon (b-1834); John W. (b-1835); George (b-1836); twins Harriet Adelia (b-1841 m-Felton) & Mary Amelia (b-1841 m-Allen); and Elizabeth "Betsey" Ann (b-1844 m-Whiting). Alanson & Elizabeth Belcher were faithful members of Rev. Lawrence Manzer's Free-Will Baptist Church in Gelatt, PA.
