Gerald Mingolelli Sr.
Gerald Mingolelli Sr., 79, of 908 Carbon St., Syracuse, died Friday at Iroquois Nursing Home after a short illness. Mr. Mingolelli was a life resident of Syracuse and a graduate of North High School. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1960 at the age of 44 and earned a bachelor’s degree in English. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Kappa Phi Kappa and Rho Delta Phi, all honorary fraternities. Mr. Mingolelli was employed by the Syracuse City School District for 20 years and taught English, Italian and French at Grant Junior High School. He also owned and operated Jerry's Dry Cleaning for many years on the city's North Side. Mr. Mingoletti was the author of "Assassins of Education." a book published in 1978 about how prejudices affect education. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a member of the Italian American Athletic Club, Lincoln Republican Club and Rotary. Surviving are three sons, Ralph A., Brian D., and Gerald S., all of Syracuse; a sister, Jane DeiPopolo of Liverpool; and eight grandchildren. His wife, the former Ella Capone, died in 1990. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Farone & Son Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 1500 Park St., Syracuse.
