J.A. Mickey Irwin, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away at his home early on the morning of September 5, 2007, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Mickey was born in Blaine, Washington, on October 29, 1916, to James and Anna (Dirkes) Irwin, the ninth of ten children. He married the love of his life, Amy Conn, on November 5, 1939, the beginning of a happy and loving marriage. Together they owned and operated Irwin Hardware in Ferndale for 34 years.

Mickey was very active in the Ferndale community for many years. He loved the Golden Eagles football team, rarely missing a game and was proud to be on the "Chain Gang" for 50+ years. He was instrumental in starting Little League baseball in Ferndale in 1956. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Bellingham Golf and Country Club since 1946.

Surviving Mickey are Amy, his beloved wife of 67 years; daughters, Sheryl and husband Rick Stefanson, and Karen and husband Werner Gerhardt; son, Greg and wife Laura Irwin; grandchildren, Kurt Stefanson, Kim (Jim) Monson, Keith (Robin) Stefanson, Greg Ferry, and Jeff Ferry; great grandchildren, Craig and Brad Monson, Kelsie Ferry, Blake and Olivia Stefanson, and Marin and Drew Wheeler; sisters, Doris Wright and Ethel Todd; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Mickey's family would like to thank his doctors; his caregivers, Lisa, Linda, and Fay; Whatcom Hospice; and his many friends who came to visit him.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, September 9, at Moles Family Funeral Home, 2039 Main Street, Ferndale.
