Lin passed away peacefully March 15, 2015, at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland. Lin was 92. She was born Lillian Marjory Blake May 13, 1922, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, and later changed her name to Lin.
At age 9, Lin began her lifelong interest in finance. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Ohio, in 1939 with honors. A quote in her yearbook reads "She studied hard." She attended Elliott College in West Virginia and Portland Community College. She studied math and business administration. Lin enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and received an honorable discharge with the rank of corporal March 13, 1945. While in Washington, Lin attended Franklin Delano Roosevelt's inauguration. She noted it as one of her life's highlights.
Lin was stationed in San Francisco, where she fell in love and in 1947, married Air Force Colonel George B. Gronvold. They settled in Portland. After George's death in 1972 [sic], she married Clifford Westran.
In 1984, Lin was the Newcomer Club tour leader, a very popular feature called "Lin's Adventures." Lin loved to socialize. She loved to play bridge with her friends. She was known for her sharp mind with a natural talent and passion for finance.
Lin was preceded in death by her father, Ohio Senator Arthur Blake; mother, Edna Blake who lived to be 108; brother, Robert; sisters, Eva and Gloria; and husbands, George Gronvold and Cliff Westran. Lin is survived by her cats, Sheba, MiMi and LuLu; Prebysterian Church of Laurelhurst friends, bridge friends and family-friends; stepchildren; and step-grandchildren. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Riverview Abbey. You may honor Lin's memory with donations to the American Heart Association, 4380 S.W.
