COX, JOHN Y.

Chase Registar (Chase, Rice, Kansas) Aug. 10, 1911
(Son of Jeremiah and Margaret (Yates) Cox of Jacksonville, Morgan County, IL

John Y. Cox was born in Morgan county, Illinois, December 18, 1829. August 15, 1855, he was united in marriage to Louisa Dunlap. To this union was born eight children, four of whom had preceded him to the better home. In the fall of 1878 he moved with his family to Rice county, Kansas, onto his farm where he lived until the spring of 1909, when he moved to his home in Chase. Here he lived until his death, August 1, 1911. He was converted and joined the M. E. church in the year 1885, and where he lived a faithful Christian until the year 1893, when he joined the Church of Christ, in which faith he died.

To know him was to love him. His life was a perfect example for others to follow. He leaves an aged wife, one son, and three daughters, twenty grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, six brothers and sisters, a host of friends, to mourn him. But not without the comfort of an All wise Father and a crucified Redeemer that he is only gone a step before, and is enjoying his reward which is justly his.

The funeral services were conducted at the home August 3, 1911.by Elder Samuel Elam and the body was borne by his son-in-laws, sons, nephews, and grandson. He was laid to rest in the Grace??and cemetery at Lyons, Kans.. A large concourse of friends testified to the high esteem in which he was held.

We wish to express our gratitude to the many friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted us at the death and burial of our dear husband and father. May God bless you all.
