Logan, Utah - Thadeus Dee Brown, 83 of Logan, Utah, died at home peacefully on Sunday, December 8 with his family around him.

He was born to Thadeus Henry and Olive Roundy Brown in Logan, Utah on February 22, 1930.

Dee loved the outdoors. He especially loved hiking, horseback riding, fishing and skiing. He became a state champion swimmer his junior and senior year at Logan High School. The love of swimming remained throughout his life.

Dee married Joyce Colleen Loveday on Aug. 9, 1948. They reared seven children.

Family was important to him and he worked hard to make lasting memories with them, particularly, skiing at Beaver Mountain on Ladies Day with his six daughters, horseback riding and hunting with his son, Thad, and spending days waterskiing at Bear Lake. His daughters remember hiking all over Logan Canyon, having cookouts during the summer with family and friends, and having him recite poetry and play his harmonica when he tucked them into bed at night. Dee also taught his children to enjoy hard work. He made every project fun. There wasn't much the family couldn't tackle together, from painting rooms to building a swimming pool. Believe it or not, his daughters all have fond memories of cutting and hauling wood for the winter.

Dee lived a life of constant service to others. He served in the 204th Field Artillery Battalion, C Battery in Korea. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, but said his favorite calling was as Bishop of the Logan 14th Ward because he could serve so many. He was always happy to serve at the Welfare Farm, was the last to leave any ward activity because he was busy cleaning up, and always bought boxes of Bluebird candy for the widows in the neighborhood, which he delivered personally at Christmastime.

Dee made many lasting friendships that he cherished throughout his life. Many childhood, high school, and military friends remained close throughout the years. The friends in his neighborhood were important to him. He loved people.
We learned to laugh and see the humor in life because of dad and he maintained his wit and humor to the end.
Dee was a 5th generation stonecutter and artisan. He owned and operated Brown Monument and Vault Company for many years. It was his life's work.

Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his son Thad, and his daughter, Shelley Hoffman, and his sister Laura Powell. He is survived by his five daughters, Sharon (Eric) Bunderson, Shauna (Scott) Kunz, Shannon (Michael) Call, Sharla Behrmann, Shari (Brook) Ferney, and many grand and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol Rae Brown and Maureen Sorenson, and his brother James Brown.

There are many to thank, but his family would especially like to thank Joel and Kim Lundstrom for their devotion to dad and their watchful care.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, December 12, 2013,in the Logan 8th Ward Chapel, 325 Lauralin Drive, Logan, Utah. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. also at the church.
