He was the 1st man to carry mail in Indian Territory by the Pony Express. He did this for 3 years.
When he was 17 & courting his 1st wife, MARGARET HOLLINSWORTH(1879-1900), who lived 20 miles from his father's place, he has an experience that few can boast.
"I was walking the 20 miles home from Margaret's place late one afternoon, & still had quite a piece to go when a woman in chaps & two Winchesters flanking her horse stopped & asked me if I could use a ride. I said yes & climbed up behind her.
After a little, she asked me if " I knew who she was. I had wonder by that time, but I still didn't know for sure. Then she told me, I was riding with an outlaw "Belle Starr's the name".
I was ready to walk the rest of the way home by this time but she wouldn't let me get down. Instead she told me that if anything started happening, I should slide off the horse and take off through the bushes. Nothing happened & when we reached home & I got off, she rode away.
The next day, we heard that she had gone on into Cuahunga Bend in Porum, Ok. Early that morning, the peace officers caught up with her & killed her.
