After retiring, Don went to Oscar Rose Junior College and earned an Associates in Business Technology. Don found a new career at the Dayton Tire plant in Oklahoma City. When the United Rubber Workers union was formed, Don was elected to serve as Vice President and until his retirement served as either Vice President or Insurance/Pension representative. He was proud to say he never lost an election. What made him most proud though was his children and grandchildren, who affectionately called him Poppy, it was a rare weekend that Don didn’t spend with one or more of his grandkids. From trips to the lake, the park, for snow cones, kite flying, or even just a walk, these times were very special to all involved. It continued with the great-grand kids as well. Not to mislead you, he still made time to watch his OU and Dallas Cowboy football games and he loved to vacation in Branson multiple times a year with his dear wife, Billie.
Don was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Earl, sister, Doris, and sons Edward and Bill. He is survived by his wife, Billie, of the home, brother Carl Adams, son, Larry (Vickie) Self, daughters, Raylene (Steve) Somerlott, Loreana (Tom) Wrench, Davida (Stephen) Dean. He is also survived by countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
