Harriet Ellen (Ellis) Kopp, 89, passed away on January 22, 2018, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Harriet was born in Evansville, Wisconsin, to Donald and Arlene Ellis on May 21, 1928.

She grew up in Madison, WI. She attended the University of Wisconsin majoring in Home Economics and graduated in 1950.

Harriet married Robert Kopp of Madison, WI., on July 22, 1950.

In 1951 Bob and Harriet moved to Cedar Rapids when Bob began work at Collins Radio.

Harriet often talked about things she was proud of in her life. At the top of the list was being a loving and compassionate wife to Bob for over 67 years. They raised three children, travelled some, and were each other’s best friend. Harriet was proud of her three children. She enjoyed her 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Harriet was an artist. Her artistic talent showed in floral arrangements, home décor, and creating liturgical items for her church, Kenwood Park Presbyterian. She also produced beautiful oil and watercolor paintings. Harriet’s church activity was very meaningful to her. She offered her many talents to the church and was an active participant in Kitchen Dialogue, a women’s group that met weekly for decades.

Recently, Harriet was asked if she had any bucket list items to finish. She said she didn’t and had done all the things she wanted to. She was happy with how her life turned out.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; their three children, Linda Kopp Hubbard (David) of Dacono, CO., Douglas Kopp (Diane), and Donald Kopp (Brenda) both of Solon, IA. She, also, is survived by her grandchildren, Dana (Hubbard) Wuensch, Joanna Hubbard, Jessica (Kopp) Johanningmeier, Austin Kopp, Andrew Kopp, Krystal (Kopp) Schatzle, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Harriet loved and was loved as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was cherished as a friend by many.

The family would like to thank the staff at Keystone Cedars for the loving care shown to Harriet during her stay, and to Mercy Hospice for their care and compassion the last 10 months.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, January 26 at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church in Marion, IA. The family will greet visitors at 10:00 followed by the service at 11:00.

Harriet’s family suggests that any memorial gifts be designated for Echo Hill Presbyterian Church or Mercy Hospice.
