Gottfried Röttger was the son of Röttger Galts Decker and his wife Amke Claaßen. He was born in Eversmeer, Ostfriesland, Germany. He immigrated to America in 1867 and went to Illinois. He married his first cousin, Ida Decker, August 14, 1878 in Danforth, Illinois. They had ten children: Rodger Wilken; Anna Maria; George Frederick; Ulrich Janssen; Frederick Gottfried; Ida Emma; John Robert; David Daniel; Joseph Joshua; Esther Hannah. The family moved from Illinois to Wichita Falls, Texas in February 1886. Gottfried was a farmer in Archer County, Texas in 1900 and 1910.

-Resident of Bowman Dead at Mineral Wells-

The body of G. R. Decker who died Friday at Mineral Wells is being held at the undertaking parlor of O. W. Hines, awaiting the arrival of a brother from Illinois. It is probable that the funeral will take place Monday, burial to be made in the cemetery at Bowman where Mr. Decker resided with his family. Mr. Decker was 68 years of age and is survived by a wife and several children all grown. Death resulted from Bright's disease.
