Mona Elizabeth is the first born child of Joseph David "Lawson" and Ruth Louise (Florida) Lee. She probably was named after her two grandmothers, Mourning (Alsup) Florida and Elizabeth (?) the first wife of Thomas Jefferson Lee. She was born in Tennessee, most likely Laurel Hill, DeKalb County, Tennessee. When she was around 16, she left Tennessee with her mother and father and five other siblings and moved to Texas where the family finally settled on a farm in Lampasas County, Texas where they continued to live many years. She married Thomas Jefferson Barton, a widower with children approximately 1909 and two sons were born to that union. (Lura Shaw)
