PHILIP V. WILES passed away Tuesday, the 21st of October 2008 in Houston, Texas. He was born the 4th of January 1918 to Dr. Albert Marion Wiles and Cora (Whitehead) Wiles of Jerseyville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gordon Wiles & wife, Margaret Wiles Duffie & husband Fred, Virginia Wiles Buechner & husband Erich all of California. Surviving is his wife Mary Falk Wiles; daughter, Elizabeth Wiles Keene and husband David; son, Philip V. Wiles, Jr. and wife Karen; grandchildren, Andrew Keene, Stewart Keene, Jennifer Wiles Stewart and Jeremy Wiles and Jeffrey Wiles; great grandson Taylor Stewart, all of Houston and all of whom he dearly loved. Phil grew up in Jerseyville, spending his memorable summers at the family place in Colorado with many friends and relatives. Following high school at Jerseyville High School, he attended the University of Illinois where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and graduated with a business degree in 1939. With the onset of WW II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp. As a 2nd Lieutenant, he piloted many C-47 missions in the China Burma India theatre, during which time he was decorated with an air medal with one oak leaf cluster. Following the war's end, he came to Houston and began his career, first for some years with American General Investment Co. and then his many years as an independent real estate appraiser. He was a member of the Appraisal Institute, serving as President of the Houston chapter in 1966 to 1968, and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, President 1961. Philip was the chairman of Piney Point Village planning and zoning commission for 37 years and was a member for some years of the King's Men Barbershop singing group. He was a member for some time of the Executive Club of Houston, Rotary Club, longtime member of the Houston Racquet Club and a member of the Bible Class at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 24th of October in the chapel of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay in Houston, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be directed to Chapelwood Foundation, 11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024 or the charity of one's choice.
