Sheridan, Feb. 5.--
James F. Powell, after an illness of less than one week's duration, passed from this life to the Great Beyond Friday, Jan. 30, 1920, from the effects of paralysis. His condition was critical from the time he was stricken that slight hopes were entertained for his recovery. He passed peacefully away surrounded by members of his family. Mr. Powell had been in failing health for some time, but was in his usual health when he was stricken with the illness that proved fatal. Deceased was born in Monroe county, Wis., July 1850 (sic). He removed to Missouri in 1879, where he was united in marriage to Miss Susan Briton of Civil Bend. He came to Montana about 14 years ago. For the past year he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. H. M. O'Dell, who has tenderly cared for him in his declining years and illness. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. H. M. O'Dell of Sheridan, Mrs. H. C. Counter of Twin Bridges and seven sons, Ernest E. and W. H. Powell of Waterloo, Frank F. Powell of Snow Belt, Mont. Four sons reside in San Francisco, Calif. A number of grandchildren and one great-grandson. The funeral was held from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Wise conducting the religious service and the choir singing appropriate hymns. The remains were followed to their last resting place in the Sheridan cemetery by a large concourse of sympathizing friends, where the last sad rites were performed.
