Dorothy Kearney passed away on December 26, 2020 after a short illness, at the age of 93. She leaves behind a happy and healthy family: Tom, Jr. (Debbie), Rosemary (Albert), and Dan (Jennifer); along with 6 grandchildren: Tom III (Sara), Caitlin (Jesse), Angela (Grant), Suzanne (Brian), Rick (Lydia), Danny; and 6 great-grandchildren: Dorothy, Jane, Jack, Claire, Parker, Adele, Annemarie, and Andrew.
She is predeceased by her husband, Tom, Sr., and her brother, Frank. Dorothy was born on October 19, 1927 in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of Felix and Rosa Leonetti. She attended Washington High School and Marylhurst College in Portland before leaving for San Francisco to attend Lone Mountain College, where she majored In English. While attending Lone Mountain, Dorothy met her future husband, Tom (St. Ignatius High School 1945, USF 1950).
Tom, Dorothy and their 3 children resided in the Ingleside District in San Francisco. All were active members of St. Emydius parish. Following Tom's passing in 1985, Dorothy moved to the Peninsula where she lived for the past 35 years. She was the matriarch of the family. Dorothy's love, her support and her ongoing involvement with her children, grand-children, and great-grand-children was truly inspirational. She was an avid golfer, forming life-long friendships over the years. She loved to travel, especially to Italy - the birthplace of her father.
For many years, Dorothy volunteered her time in service to Little Children's Aid in San Francisco, and to Catholic Charities Primrose House in Burlingame.
Dorothy saw the good in everyone and everything. She was a woman of very strong faith and a dedicated member of her Catholic parishes in San Francisco and on the Peninsula.
A Funeral Mass and celebration of life will be held when it is safe to do so.
