Death of Mrs. Rose Miner

Rose Miner, an aged and well known Thomson resident for a great many years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Adams, at 3 o'clock this morning, November 13, 1923. Her death was due to complications brought on by the infirmities of old good age, and followed a long period of poor health. She had been confined to her bed since the second week of April. She was 80 years of age on March 7th last. Her husband preceded her to the grave several years ago. She is survived by one son, George, who lives in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and three daughters; Mrs. Orville Orcutt and Mrs. William Adams, both of Thomson, and Mrs. Will Willis of Kent, Illinois. The daughters were all at her bedside when death occurred, as it has been realized for several days that the end was near. Mrs. Miner was a devoted member of the Christian church at Thomson, and was widely known and universally loved in that community. The sympathy of all is extended to the sorrowing children. An obituary will be given next week.

Rose A. Gaar, daughter of John and Elizabeth Gaar, was born at Indianapolis, Indiana March 7, 1843, and departed this life November 13, 1923, aged 80 years, 8 months, and 6 days. Her parents came to Illinois and settled in York Township when she was 6 months old. She had spent her entire life in and around Thomson, with the exception of the first years of her married life. She was united in marriage to Andrew J. Miner on September 1, 1870, who preceded her in the life beyond on March 6, 1897.

To this union were born six children. Four are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother: George F., of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Mrs. William Willis of Kent, Illinois, Mrs. W. A. Adams and Mrs. Orville Orcutt, both of Thomson, Illinois. She also leaves to mourn fourteen grandchildren, and three sisters; Mrs. Dorcas St. Ores and Mrs. E. H. Dyson, both of Thomson; and Mrs. Mary Lambert of Hinton, Oklahoma; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Gaar, and a number of relatives and friends.

She became a Christian in an early day and has remained true to her Heavenly Father. She had been a constant sufferer for a year; the last two years confined to the house, and the last seven months to the bed, but in all that time she was patient and thoughtful of those who cared for her. She passed away at the home of her daughters, Mrs. W. A. Adams. Her funeral was held from the Christian church where she had been a faithful member for so many years, Rev. William Montgomery, the pastor, officiating. By her request, six of her nephews acted as pall bearers. She was laid to rest in Dunshee Cemetery.

(Alice Horner's note: These obituaries probably came from either the Savanna Times Journal or the Thomson Review. Rose A. Miner's full name was Roseanne S. Gaar. Her parents full names were John Powell Gaar and Elizabeth Shoemaker. Dunshee Cemetery is now called Lower York Cemetery.)
