CHARLES BIRDWELL BEARD, JR.
January 8, 1954 ~ December 24, 2020 (age 66)

Charles Birdwell Beard Jr. of Dallas, Texas completed his journey on earth and went home to God at 9:55 AM Christmas Eve from complications related to Covid 19.

Graveside services will be held at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Hugo, Thursday December 31 at 10 AM . Officiating will be his nephew the Reverend Deacon Charles D. Beard.

A memorial service will also be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Dallas on a date in the near future to be determined.

“Chuck” was born on January 8, 1954 in Paris, Texas to Charles B. “Charlie” and Elizabeth “Bess” T. Beard of Frogville, Oklahoma. He lived his early years in Choctaw county graduating from Hugo High School in 1971 as valedictorian.

Following graduation Chuck completed a BA degree in Spanish at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. He then moved to Dallas where he lived most of his life working in education and as a retail clerk.

Chuck was well known for his love of family, intelligence, wit and musical ability but mostly for his love of Christ. For over 40 years he was a devout and devoted member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Dallas. Nieces -Sarah Witt-Bird of Kansas Oklahoma; Martha Perkins of Long Beach California; Kathy McGirt of Denver, Colorado; and Julia Dowler of Decatur, Texas. His nephews- Reverend Deacon Charles D. Beard of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Benjamin T. Beard Jr. of Spring Texas; and Richard Burden of Washington, DC.

It goes without saying that he is also survived by a multitude of friends too numerous to list. Chuck was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

*Earlier this evening I learned of Chuck's death from Facebook. I had wondered why he had not answered phone calls and emails lately, which was very unlike him. Rodger Cunningham had written of it on Facebook, that is how I got the bad news. I'll never forget his laugh and sense of fun, or his deep knowledge of history. May he dwell with the Saints in light.

*I've known Chuck since 1975 when we were at Indiana U. He was my best friend in those days and helped me deal with my mother's death in the following year. I just found out about his death after wishing him happy birthday. I'm not sure how coherent this message is.
