Michael “Mike” Eugene Rhodes Sr., 89, Mountain Lake Park, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2020.

Born on April 27, 1931, he was the son of the late John Curtis Rhodes and Goldie Emma (Wilson) Rhodes of Swanton, Maryland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Rhodes; the mother of his two sons and former wife, Mary G. Collins; one son Michael Eugene Rhodes Jr.; stepson, Edward Bennett; step-grandson, Derek Bennett; two brothers, Curtis “Sonny” Rhodes and Harry “June” Warnick; a sister, Mareva Teets.

Mike was employed as a brick mason since 1952 and was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers Allied Craftsman Local 15 Fairmont, WVA. Mike mastered the trade of stone and brick masonry and passed his talent down to his two sons, Mike Jr. and Jim, by teaching them the art of stone and brick masonry. During his lifetime, Mike also instructed masonry classes at Garrett Community College, served as Garrett County Director of the Maryland Fur Trappers Association, and was a member of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department. Mike was also a founding member of the Restless Ridge Hunting Club, Accident, MD, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a lifetime member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Mike enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, telling stories, and being in the “good company” of family and friends.

Mike is survived by his son James “Jim” Rhodes and wife Lois, Swanton; stepdaughter in-law, Mildred O’Haver and husband, Buddy, Oakland; and two sisters, Encie Teets and Caroline Hutson, both of Hampton, VA. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 31 great/great-great grandchildren.

At Mike’s request, he will be cremated and there will be no service at this time.
