Nancy Jean Gallagher, 80, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at The Village House, in Newport, RI after a lenghty battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Nancy was born to the late Patrick and Sylvia Gallagher, in Pittsburgh, PA on September 15, 1937. She graduated from South Hills High School in 1955. In 1957 she moved to New York City to take a job with American Airlines as a flight attendant. In 1962 she married her late and former husband James B. Heth and moved to Newtown, Ct. where together they raised their four children. They enjoyed summers on Block Island, RI and lived on Island year around from 1976-1979. Later she would "retire" to Newport, RI. where she enjoyed many happy years working for the Preservation Society.
Nancy was a homemaker while raising her children but later returned to the travel industry and became a travel agent. She remained an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan throughout her life. She was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Church, in Newtown, Ct., St. Andrews Church on Block Island, RI, and later St. Mary's Church in Newport, RI. During her Ct. years, she volunteered at Danbury Hospital, enjoyed being an active PTA participant, was a founding member of the KIWIS Club which was a social and charitable organization, made up of former American Airlines flight attendants, and was an active member of The League of Women Voters.
Nancy was blessed with a large and loving family. Nancy is survived by her sons Patrick Heth of Flower Mound, TX, and Kenneth Heth of Singapore; her daughters Stephanie Heth of Athens, GA and Hillary Davidson of Newport, RI; her sister Marilyn Keener of Pittsburgh, PA; her grandchildren Shawna, Mackenzie, Zachary, Trevor, Madeline, Claire, Penelope, Oliver, Charles and Mary and great-grand daughter Eleanor Rose. Her sisters Eileen and Claire and brothers Patrick and Donald; her parents and her companion of her later years Nick J. Giordano precede her in death.
A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Newport.
Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
