Clarence Joe Cox, 73, a former Klamath Basin resident, died Feb. 20, 2000, in Oroville, Calif.

Mr. Cox was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Klamath Falls to Charles and Esther Griffith Cox. He attended Winema Grammer school and graudated from Tulelake High School. He was a military veteran of World War II, having served as a Seabee on Okinawa. After the War, Mr. Cox farmed for several years before going to court reporting school in Oakland, Calif. After graduating from the school, he was employed by the Navajo Indian Tribe at Window Rock, Ariz.

He established The American Institute of Court Reporting in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1974, serving as the institute's dean until his retirement.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bill Ackerman of Oroville and Barbara and Bob Bouton of Bucyrus, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Linda Cox fo Yreka; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ardina and Dan Crawford of Tulelake and Betty and Bill Nelson of of Boring; and five grandchildren.
