The Barendse Family had a large cemetery plot (lot) in Fulton Street Cemetery. It was purchased in 1886, and many family members are buried here. It has room for at least 24, and the records only identify 20 names as being in this plot. I was told many years ago by his granddaughter Etta Rozema that this is where he is buried. I have made every effort to find a record that would verify this. However, this is difficult as the Fulton Street Cemetery records (as well as Valley City Cemetery) for this time period were lost in a fire. His death record does not list the name of cemetery where he is buried. I have visited and searched this lot and the surrounding grounds for a headstone many times. It is likely that one does not exist due to the cost and the financial situation of the widow's family. Their home was located on Fountain Street, one block away from the cemetery. I have every reason to believe that that this (Block 15, Lot 2) is his resting place. It is also likely that his 4 children that died young are also in unmarked graves here.

6. Hugho (Hugo) Johannes Barendse, b: April 5, 1884, d: Nov 5, 1889 at age 5 of Diphtheria.
7. Antoinetta (Nettie) Martina Barendse, b: Dec 7, 1886, d: April 29, 1961
8. Adrian Barendse, b:April 25,1888, d: Nov 25, 1888 at the age of 7 months. Cause of death is recorded as "Summer Complaint". (An acute condition of diarrhea, occurring during the hot summer months chiefly in infants, often caused by spoiled milk.) Hattie was pregnant with this child at the time of Pieter Barnendse's death of Typhoid Fever in 1887.
