Eugene “Gene” Auten – age 65, of Pocahontas, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Eugene Donald Auten was born on August 1, 1955. He was the son of Donald and Catherine (Zeman) Auten. He graduated from Rolfe High School in 1973. He then served in the U.S. Army in the mid 1970’s and was stationed overseas in Korea. Following his discharge, Gene settled in Pocahontas. In 1988, Gene married Gina Pirie at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. To this union a daughter was born, Pegan. He worked as a machinist for Positech in Laurens, for over 40 years. He then worked as a machinist at Brand FX near Pocahontas for a year, before retiring in 2017.

Gene enjoyed working on cars and tractors, riding motorcycles, golfing and playing pool. His favorite cars were 3rd generation Chevy Camaros. Gene also loved meeting and talking to people.

Survivors include his daughter, Pegan Auten of Terril; mother, Catherine Auten of Pocahontas; sister, Linda (Bill) Lanning of Rutland; brother, John Auten of Storm Lake and nieces & nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Donald Auten.
