He was engaged in the leather business with his elder brother, Thomas, in New York, and started with two or three of his associates for Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1830, with a stock of leather, but was never heard from after leaving New Orleans. The expedition was always supposed to have been destroyed by the Indians.
