It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a strong lady, Sarah Louise Ashworth, Sept. 22, 2007, in Virginia Beach at the age of 94. She joins her husband, Radcliffe W. (Slim) Ashworth Sr. and only child, Radcliffe W. (Buck) Ashworth II. Born Jan. 29, 1913, in Palmersville, Tenn. Louise was the daughter of the late Joe Jones Bostic and Vera Ann (Bowers) Bostic. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary B. Peck and Sue Bell Bostic. Louise was raised in Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois and Norfolk. As a young lady, she worked at Woolworth's and the Silk Mill in Norfolk and she boarded with the Timberlake family. She married in 1932 and for many years devoted her time to family and community. After her son was grown, she began working for the Commissioner of the Revenue in Virginia Beach where she was a deputy commissioner when she retired at age 70. Louise was active in and made generous contributions to a variety of community, religious, charitable and political organizations throughout her life. She was a lifelong blood donor until age 70, receiving a gold Red Cross donor pin in 1965 for donating seven gallons of blood. She was a member of the London Bridge Baptist Church (since 1948), Eastern Shore Garden Club, London Bridge Women's Home Demonstration Club and London Bridge Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She also volunteered for the March of Dimes and was a member of the Princess Anne Women's Club (50-year membership) and Cape Henry Woman's Club. Along with her late husband, Louise donated her time and energy to the Volunteer Fire Department at London Bridge. Politically, Louise was a lifelong Democrat, active in local, state and national elections. She worked closely with the Democratic Organization headed by the late Sidney S. Kellam and was the official registrar for the London Bridge Borough for many years. She was a regular at the Saturday morning Democratic breakfast for decades. Louise will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Sentara Windermere for their loving care of Louise. Survivors include her grandchildren, Laura L. Ashworth of Chesapeake, Elizabeth G. Hand of Chesapeake, Vera A. Ashworth of Maryland and Radcliffe W. (Rad) Ashworth III of Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Gina L. Tims, J. Wesley Conroy III, Stuart W. Conroy, Radcliffe W. (Rad) Ashworth IV and Nicole A. Ramirez; daughter- in-law, Genie S.
