She grew up in the community of her birth and there, as a young woman, she married Bayne Gardner. To his union were born two children, Charles and Carla.

When the family moved from Oklahoma to California, Mary continued her work for the telephone company in Anadarko to the Pacific Telephone Co., in Los Angeles. She retired from the Telephone Co. in 1977, having accumulated a total of 34 years of service and faithful employment.

After her husband Bayne’s death in 1965, Mary married Jack Ewing in 1967. He also preceded his Mary through the Birth-gate we call Death, in 1975.

In the fullness of time, on June 5, 1982, Mary was married to Donald Schmitt, here in this sanctuary of the Church of the Red Rocks.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; her son Charles Gardner of Medford, Oregon, and her daughter, Carla, Mrs. Dennis Ridenour, of Eugene, Oregon. Five
grandchildren also survive. They are Douglas, Troy, and Brendon Ridenour, and Joey and Bayne Gardner. Her older brother, L.D. lives in Anadarko, Okla. and her younger sister, Betty Lee, lives in New Mexico.

In addition to these family members, she leaves three stepchildren, Colby Schmitt, and Lea and Deedre.

Mary was an active member of the Church of the Red Rocks, having joined Dec. 9, 1979.
