Lexington Resident Had Long Law Enforcement Career
Emmett Deroy (Poppy) Potter, 93, of Lexington, Virginia, died Monday, December 14, 2020 at Havenwood in Lexington.
He was born March 24, 1927 in Rockbridge County, the son of Della Mae Entsminger Potter and Emmett Oliver Potter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mildred K. Potter; and a daughter, Sharon Yvonne Potter Bilbrey.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen Potter Owen of Buena Vista; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Emmett enjoyed a long career in many aspects of law enforcement including the city of Lexington, Rockbridge Sheriff's Office and security at Virginia Military Institute.
Donations may be given to the Rockbridge County Sheriff Office Deputy Fund.
Due to COVID-19, a celebration of life will be held this summer.
