This is my paternal grandfather, of whom I really know very little. I know he was a farmer, and I believe he was in the Merchant Marines. He always treated me very well as I was growing up and I remember his small shop at his home in Blackshear, where he would build little wooden items for the family. I still have a wooden mallet he made of several that I know he gave to his grandchildren. I was always surprised to see what he could do with popsicle sticks, bowls and pictures frames and other kinds of projects he would do at home. I remember the big white house in Blackshear and the big front porch and the steps with the large elevated sides we would jump off of as kids. It was very near downtown, where we could walk, if we wanted to go to the theater. I remember a large cedar tree to the side of the house we could climb and hide from each other when playing 'hide and go seek'. I wish I knew more about him, and I hope to find out more some day.
