Dr. Davis Boyd Lackey, Major, (US Army Retired), 83, of Ringgold, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He became a Christian in 1958 during a local church’s evangelistic campaign.

He was a retired field grade military officer in the U.S. Army. Dr. Lackey enlisted in the Army as a tank gunner and upon receiving his commission became a military chaplain. He held doctoral degrees in divinity, psychology, marriage/family counseling, organizational behavior management and military science as well as other degrees from the US Military Command and General Staff College, Long Island University and other studies at Walter Reed Hospital, Princeton University and numerous other places. Dr. Lackey lived and ministered on five continents and traveled in twenty-four countries and in most of the United States. He ministered to and attended various churches in the Chattanooga Area. During his career he has developed and taught training materials for churches and other groups on a variety of topics including church growth and leadership principles. He prepared and taught over 300 programs. At one time Dr. Lackey was in private practice in marriage and family counseling and clinical counseling and taught courses in psychology and sociology at a university as an adjunct professor. Dr. Lackey was a published author with several books in the public library system and on Amazon.

He was born in Scott County, Tennessee a great-nephew to Sergeant Alvin York of World War I fame. His hobbies included painting, martial arts and training his dogs. He was a black belt in martial arts and a nationally certified instructor.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Lackey.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lackey; sister-in-law, Erma Lackey; niece, Teresa and nephew Timothy Lloyd Lackey; a host of friends including special friends Marti Bailey, Genie Davis, Charlotte Youngblood and Don Langford.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 8214 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. The Rev. Dr. M.C. Tolbert will officiate.
