She was widowed in 1888. She married Robert Curts in 1900 and was again widowed in 1901.
Obituary:
Death of Mrs. Curts: Well Known Lady Succumbs to a Fatal Malady
The illness of Mrs. Mahala Curts terminated fatally Wednesday at _ o'clock, at the home of her son, E. E. Sheridan, East Wabash street. Deceased had suffered for a considerable time from cancer of the liver, but it was not until about one week ago that she was attacked with the complication that hastened her demise.
With the exception of a few years spent in Tippecanoe Co., Mrs. Curts had lived practically all of her long and useful life in this, the county of her nativity. She was born of farmer parents, near Moran, December 30, 1836, and having reached womanhood was on December 11, 1857, married to Davidson F. Sheridan, whose death occurred February 27, 1888. About three years later, or on October 18, 1900, she was married to Robert Curts and he too preceded her to the spirit world, his death occurring in October of 1901. Four children by her first marriage survive, Harry O, Elmer E, and Squire Sheridan, and Mrs. William Cohee, all residing in this city.
Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church, being enrolled with the congregation of that denomination in this city. Her example was ever that of a patient follower of the Master, exemplifying those traits of character in her life which give to woman her greatest charm.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock, from the residence of E. E. Sheridan. Services were conducted by Revs. Stark and Ogden and the remains taken to the Moran cemetery for interment.
