Freda J. Hines, 91, formerly of 713 Bruce St., died Saturday morning at Brethren Care Nursing Home following a long illness.

She was born Jan. 17, 1899, in Monroe County, the daughter of Richard and Leticia Daugherty Bates.

Mrs. Hines had been a resident of the Ashland area most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Steele Avenue Church of Christ. She was a former member of Ashland Senior Citizens.

She is survived by one son, Harold R. Eddington of Ormand Beach, Fla.; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; one brother, William Bates of Crooksville, three sisters, Grace Turner and Emma Nalley, both of Woodsfield and Mary Kelch of Sistersville, W.Va.; and four half-sisters, Gladys Highman, Jane Strickling, Edith Brown and Eleanor Weber, all of Woodsfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Hines, in 1988.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. today in Heyl Funeral Home with Travis D. Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Nankin Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Steele Avenue Church of Christ.
