Phyllis Ruth Walker, age 79 of Beckley passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved sports and working crossword puzzles and watching TV shows.
She was born on February 5, 1930 at Bim, WV, she was the daughter of the late Dewey M. Browning (1907-1974) and Ethel Irene Jordan-Browning (1912-1975). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John Jackson “Jack” Walker (1926-2006); a daughter, Susan "Cheryl" Walker-Gustinski (1950-1988); and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Johnette Walker of Beckley; three grandchildren, Melanie Showalter & husband Jeff Showalter of Cool Ridge, Philip Walker, and Greg Gustinski & wife Jennifer Gustinski, all of Beckley; seven great-grandchildren, John, Danielle, Megan, Michael, Mandy, Chase, and Jake; three brothers, Kenneth Lee Browning (1941-2020) & wife Dorothy Lee Hightower-Browning (B. 1945), Robert “Squeek” Browning & wife Margaret Browning, and Gary Browning & wife Debbie Browning; special friends and caregivers, Patty Greer and Tina Dion; a very special niece, Karen Brewster; and various other special nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. John Bair officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may gather with the family Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
