James McClay Atherton, age 86, passed away on December 12, 2020, at his home in Scurry, Texas. He was born on July 14, 1934 to John Charles Atherton and Bashie Oleta Williams Atherton. He was preceded in death by parents, 3 brothers, John Thurman Atherton, Herbert Atherton and George Atherton; 3 sisters, Lula Atherton Macek, Elaise Atherton Spawn, and Mary Atherton Guinn. He is survived by his children, Robert Randy Atherton of Prairieville, Bonnie Ann Gilbert of Scurry, and Gay Lynn Geiger of Kemp, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, brother Lloyd Daniel Atherton; sisters, Oleta Mae Atherton Jones, Cornelia Atherton Granger, Betty Atherton Deslatte, and Margaret Ann Atherton Montgomery, and numerous nephews and nieces. James worked as an aircraft engine mechanic for over 40 years at Availl in Dallas, Texas. James went by the name of Jimmy to his family and friends. Jimmy loved being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing vegetables. He could get almost anything to grow. His favorite pastime was playing dominoes. There was a period when you could always find him at the Barn playing dominoes. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
