Lewis Richard Poole of Boyne City died Thursday, December 10, 2020 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Charlevoix, Michigan on March 19, 1945 to Elmer M. and Margaret L. (Simpson) Poole. Lewis graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1964.

Lewis Enlisted into the US Army in September 1967. He served with the 78th Engineer Bn. in Ettlingen, Germany and reached the rank of Sergeant. While serving in Germany he attended and graduated from the 7th Army NCO Academy.

On November 22, 1968 he married Dolores M. Anthony in Charlevoix at the United Methodist Church.

In 1969, using his GI bill, he took a three year course in Tool and Die Design and successfully completed it in 1972. He worked for a machine shop in Charlevoix before going to work for Jervis B. Webb Co. on July 21, 1969. He retired on March 19, 2010 with over 40 years of service, was awarded with two US patents and retired as their Chief Mechanical Engineer.

After retirement, his hobbies were fishing, woodworking, photography, photo editing, genealogy, coin collecting and helping his wife with her craft projects.

He was a member of the Boyne City Lions Club for many years. Was a volunteer ambulance driver for over 10 years. Lewis also served on the Boyne City Economic Development Corporation board. He was a past President and lifetime member of the Northwest Michigan Industrial Association and a member of the Boyne City American Legion Post 228.

Lewis is survived by his wife Dolores M. (Anthony) Poole; his three children: Toni L. (Carolyn) Poole, Cynthia M. (Earl) Moore, and Lewis R. (Kristin) Poole II; his six grandchildren: Matt (Ashley) Poole, Halle Poole, Damian Moore, Kelsey (Josh) Stahl, Andrew Moore and Ethan Poole; his seven great-grandchildren: Isabella, Lillian, Olivia, Wyatt, Athena, Harmony and Melody; his mother-in-law Lila Anthony; his two sisters: Margaret K. Bushor and Elaine J. Budde; and his sister-in-law Beverly Poole.

Lewis is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Heidi Louise; his father-in-law Lyle Anthony; his three brothers: Elmer E. Poole Jr., William H. (Helen) Poole and Wallace J. Poole; his four sisters: Wilma M. (Cal) Kuebler, Patricia L. (Hugh) Lamb, Joan (Jack) McKenney and Nancy L. Eaton; and his brothers-in-law Ray Budde, Ivan Whitley, Bill Bushor, Leonard Niswander and Lyle Eaton.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a charitable donation are asked by family to consider the Boyne City Ambulance.

At this time, a private family service for Lewis will be held and burial will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City, Michigan.
