Mary Ann Fitzgerald McClure Blackwell, 89, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 12, 2020, at St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center with her children at her side.
She was born February 2, 1931, in Henderson, Kentucky, to John Francis Fitzgerald and Ina Thelma Utley Fitzgerald. She was a 1949 graduate of Barret Manual High School and graduated from Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon, Georgia, with a piano performance degree. The summer after graduating college Mary Ann traveled Europe concertizing in various venues. She then returned to Henderson where she began a career teaching hundreds of young people piano and sharing her love of music. For many years she shared her musical talents freely with the Henderson community and her church, First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William McClure, who died August 25, 1985; her second husband, Chapman T Blackwell, III, who died April 29, 2015; her son-in-law, Pat McCormick, who died August 4, 2009; and her stepgrandson, CT Blackwell, V, who died April 5, 2015.
Survivors include one daughter, Heather McCormick and her companion, Tim Hall; one son, Brett McClure and his wife, Kim; one stepson, Chapman T. Blackwell, IV; one stepdaughter, Debbie Blackwell Smith; four grandchildren, Alex McClure and his wife, Jacquelyn, Drew McClure, Seth McCormick and Kate McCormick Krause and her husband, AJ; five stepgrandchildren, Ryan Blackwell, Clayton Blackwell, JB Smith, Annie Smith, and Scott Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Mikey and Charlie McClure.
Private family services will be held at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Reverend Gary A. Chapman will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.
