Born Dec. 19, 1953, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late William “Bill” and Ella Mae (Burns) Welshonse.
He is survived by his wife, Janice (Ritzman) Welshonse, whom he married April 30, 1977, one son, David Welshonse of Thompsontown, one daughter, Carolyn (Welshonse) Mader and husband, Jeremy, of Mechanicsburg, one grandson, Xavier Mader and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Jim Welshonse, one sister, Donna Welshonse, his parents-in-law, Ralph and Esther (Kipp) Ritzman, and two sisters-in-law, Karen Ritzman and Debbie Wert.
He graduated from Juniata High School in 1971 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1972 to 1975.
He worked as a program manager at NAVICP Mechanicsburg from 1976 to 2011.
He was an active member of Port Royal Presbyterian Church where he has served as deacon, elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher. He belonged to American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown, and was a life member of the NRA.
He liked to help people and enjoyed sending cards for different occasions. He volunteered with Juniata Meals On Wheels. The thing he loved most was spending time with his family, especially with his grandson, Xavier. He also enjoyed babysitting his great-nieces, Hannah and Haylee Wirt.
There will be a public graveside service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, with Vicar Samuel Leister officiating. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing. If you wish be seated for the service, please bring a chair. A service celebrating his life will be planned in the future.
