Nelson Lickliter Donovan, 80, of Singers Glen, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, where he had been a patient for the past week.

Mr. Donovan was born April 10, 1925, in the Singers Glen area of Rockingham County, and was a son of the late Charles David and Mary Catherine Bowman Donovan.

He was employed by Don Ruddle Orchard, worked in road construction, and retired from Nichols Department Store.

On March 14, 1959, he married the former Sylvia Mae Estep, who survives.

He is also survived by five daughters, Barbara Donovan Ritchie of Conover, N.C., Donna Marie Shafer, Norma Jean Kuykendall and Crystal Donovan Schell, all of Singers Glen, and Vicky Fay Garrett of Wartburg, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Pastors Kevin Gerber and Terry Ritchie will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Singers Glen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
