CLAYTON'S OBITUARY
U.S. Veteran
Clayton Earl Whitehurst, 74, a lifelong resident of Iuka, MS passed away peacefully the morning of Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Clayton was born July 12, 1946, in Iuka, to his parents Earl B. and Virgie Morris Whitehurst who preceded him in death. He attended school in both Burnsville and Iuka, where he completed the 11th grade as an "A" student, prior to enlisting in the United States Army to serve his country. Clayton served two years in the Army, with one 15-month tour in Vietnam where he was involved in combat and received an honorable discharge. His personal decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After serving his country, Clayton worked in Chicago prior to returning to Iuka where he worked alongside his brother-in-law, Hilton Moore, at Moore's Body Shop. He also worked with Charles Bonds as an electrician. On November 24, 2003, he married Bonnie Sue McGee. She survives the home, along with their fur babies, Poppy, Lil N, Henry, Messer, Ellsinore, and Ruben Jane. Funny story regarding their wedding day; they had chosen the day before Thanksgiving so they could always remember their anniversary date, but soon after realized that date changed every year. It was hell to keep up with through the years. Clayton was a proud Vietnam Veteran and an avid outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an NRA member, a local VFW member, and a lifelong member of the Piney Flat hunting club. He loved relaxing at home; whether it be rocking on the front porch spending time with his Hunny, or indulging in country westerns with his best pal, Poppy, in his lap. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; their daughters in marriage, Kristi Whitehurst McGuff (Denny) of Iuka, MS, Tanya Duvall of Columbia, MO, and Nancy Culbertson Cote (Phillip) of Great Falls, MT; their grandchildren, Blake McGuff, Camryn McGuff, Serena Wilkerson, and Audrey Wilkerson; their great-grandchildren, Addisyn Anne Castle, Casen Castle (born on Clayton's birthday), and Cohen Castle; sisters, Lila Whitehurst Lindsey Daniel, Lola Whitehurst Vandiver, and Linda Whitehurst Moore (Hilton); nieces and nephews, Vickie LIndsey Winchester, Tracy Moore Hall, Sherry Moore, Alan Vandiver, Mary Beth Vandiver Smith; and his dearest friend, Charles Twitty. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Lee Lindsey, Roy Daniel, and Clovis "Tody" Vandiver. Services for Clayton Whitehurst will take place at New Prospect Cemetery on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at 3:00 P.M., officiated by Bro. Jimmy Daniel. Interment will be at New Prospect Cemetery with full Military Honors. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. An online guestbook may be accessed at www.cutshallfuneralhome.com.
