Gladys Marguerite James was born January 5, 1933 in Los Angeles California and passed away on April 9, 2020 in Chino Hills California. She was 87 years old.

Gladys was a native Californian. She lived in Chino Hills for the last 3 years and spent 34 years in Hemet. She raised her children in La Mirada and grew up in Huntington Park. She enjoyed the outdoors and felt fortunate to live in an area where one could get outside much of the year.

She was a capable bridge player and an avid reader. She played the ponies on many Saturdays. She loved traveling, cruising and was almost always willing to try new things. She went Kayaking for the first time at 83.

For most of her career she worked in accounting and bookkeeping. Early on she worked for Henny Penny Egg Ranches and various other incarnations in the egg and wholesale food industry and later with General Electric. Over the last twenty years she worked part time as a bookkeeper/office manager for a small law firm in Pomona, California. She had lunches regularly with the girls in the office and enjoyed sharing life’s moments with them. She had many friends, ranging in age from 20 to 90. She was blessed with a wonderful ability to connect with people.

Anyone who has been to her home knows she had an obsession with fine Bone China. She surrounded herself with beautiful teapots, dishes, bowls and chocolate pots. Every Christmas she enjoyed her Christmas Spode and springtime brought out the Old Country Rose pattern. Although she liked antiques and dainty pieces she also loved modern gadgets. She spoke with “ Alexa “ daily after the grandchildren set it up and giggled when Alexa would say “you are welcome Gladys”.

She was a member of Menifee Lakes ladies golf group and played a few rounds of golf weekly until
a few months prior to her passing. One of her favorite events was the monthly margarita party with her golf group. She was a member for many years and served as President with the North Course Ladies Group in 2014. She was quick with numbers and often shared score keeping duties during golf tournaments.

She thoroughly enjoyed family parties and stayed close to many of her nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. On monumental years she requested a big birthday party so all the family would be together. She felt blessed to be a grandmother, great grandmother and last year great-great grandmother. She attended many of the grandchildren’s life events, awards ceremonies, soccer games and high school graduations. She was so proud as they graduated from college. She liked nothing more than a phone call or lunch with her grandchildren.

Gladys is survived by her daughter Lynn Donaldson, daughter-in-law Brandy Donaldson step daughter Jean James, grandchildren Brandon, Mandy, Tyler, Breana, Derek and Amber, great grandchildren Shane, Naomi, Arabella and Riley and great-great granddaughter Genevieve.

Services will be privately held July 22, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights California.
