Mildred was born September 18, 1929 to William and Carrie Bayne in Newport, Kentucky. She spent most of her childhood on a farm in Hendersonville, NC, frequently sharing with family her wonderful memories of farm life with her brothers and sisters. During the early 1940’s her family moved to Kingsport, TN, again moving her junior year of high school to Knoxville, TN. Mildred was a graduate of Karns High School. She met the love of her life, Ernest Lance, in early 1948 and they married on November 18, 1948. They relocated to Oak Ridge, TN, where they lived until 1978 when they moved to their retirement paradise, a small farm in Knox County. An avid seamstress, Mildred was active in the Oak Ridge Women’s Club, making countless clothing outfits and frequently modeling them in shows.
