Memorial services for E. Hill Turnock Jr., retired engineering manager of the Westinghouse Electric Corp. Welding Plant in Montcvallo, Ala., will be held Saturday at 4 p. ni. at Bculah Presbyterian Church, Churchill Borough.
Mr. Turnock, 72, died Monday (Jan. 6) in Birmingham, Ala., after a brief illness. He was a former resident of Forest Hills.
A graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, Mr. Turnock was employed by Westinghouse for 38 years, retiring in 1964.
Won Merit Award
He received the Westinghouse Award of Merit in 1944 for his work in developing welding electrodes and ship-welding techniques, and was regarded as one of the pioneer welding engineers in the country.
After retiring, Mr. Turnock spent a year in Bogota, Colombia, helping develop a welding electrode plant, and two years in Bombay, India, supervising a similar operation. Both plants were under the auspices of Westinghouse International Co.
Was Archery Champion
He was a member of the American Welding Society, and a founder of the Pittsburgh Archery Association. Mr. Turnock was target archery champion of Pennsylvania for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Stahr Turnock; a son, E. Hill Turnock III; two daughters, Mrs. W. L. Prodgen of Baltimore, and Mrs. S. N. Rana of Del Mar, Calif.; a brother, L. C. Turnock of Cleveland, and 13 grandchildren.
Burial at Beulah Church Memorial Cemetery will be private. The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the Rotary Music Scholarship Fund, Montevallo, Ala.
