Susan Jane “Susie” (Strode) Shanks was born 24 Feb 1860 in Clay County, Missouri to John Nelson Strode and Judith Ann Duncan. Her GG Grandfather was Capt. John Strode, the founder of Strode’s Station in Kentucky. Susie married William Albert Shanks on 16 Feb 1882 in Clay County. They had 14 children: John Albert, Anna Myrtle, Bessie, Rolla, Edgar, Eva, Harry, Dick, Walter Earl, Roy, William Paul, Goldie Dell, Herbert DeWitt & Irene.
Susie died at the age of 70 yrs. 4 mos. and 14 days in July of 1930 in Kearney Township, Clay County, Missouri. Her gravestone says she died on the 9th, but on her death certificate it indicates that death occurred on July 8th at 5pm from cerebral hemorrhage.
