Mr. Abshire was a native of Vermilion Parish and lived in Lake Charles for over fifty years. He lived in Grand Lake for seven years before moving to Kaplan two years ago.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. today until 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A rosary will be Monday at 6 p.m.
Mr. Abshire was a retired painting contractor. He was the former president of the Painting and Decorating Contractor’s of America and a member of Painter’s Local #783. He was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was a member and Grand Knight of K.C. Council 3208 and a member of Msgr. Cramer’s Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a charter member of the St. Mary of the Lake Knights of Columbus Council.
Mr. Abshire served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and he was a member of W.B. Williamson Post #1 of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Abshire and his wife, Bernice “Mamma Bea” Abshire.
