Ann E. Peterson, 98 passed away peacefully at LifeCare Greenbush Manor on Saturday, November 28, 2020 with her loving husband and daughter at her side.
A private family service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Burial will follow at Landstad Cemetery, Gatzke, MN. A public visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service. Ann Edna Wagner was born September 24, 1922 to William and Ida (Paetznick) Wagner of Middle River, MN., the youngest of eight children. Her father died when she was 4, leaving her mother to raise her family alone. She was baptized as a young child and the community held church services in the school Sunday afternoons, later at a neighbor’s place. She attended country school near their home through eighth grade and learned the value of family, faith and working together, creating fond childhood memories. She later began working as a waitress in Gatzke where she met her future husband, Gene Peterson. They were married February 26, 1941 and made their home near town where they began their life together.
In 1948 they purchased their present farm and spent the rest of their time there until moving to assisted living the past few years. She was a dedicated wife and mother to their six children throughout the years, helping with whatever needed to be done on the farm. She always raised a large garden which she loved to share with family and friends. Her home was always open to visitors who enjoyed her meals and baking along with the fellowship. Her faith, family and friends were most important in her life. She created cherished memories for her children, grand children and great-grandchildren, teaching them through example the most important lessons she learned in life taken from her journal in her own words. “ 1. Trust people 2. Never expect too much 3. Appreciate everything 4. That having a good family is worth more than anything money can buy 5. Believe fully in God and He will provide.”
She loved tending her garden, raising flowers, keeping up the lawn, reading, doing word puzzles, picking berries and visiting family and friends. Her family will forever remember her quick wit, her one-liners, and the twinkle in her eye. Her faith was very important to her.
She was a member of United Lutheran Church of Gatzke where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and enjoyed her circle group. She served as an election judge for many years in their township.
Survivors include her husband of nearly eighty years, Gene; children: Myrna (Marvin) Espe, Gary (Dena) Peterson, Dwight (Janis) Peterson, Maureen (Bob) Giffen, Joni (Craig) Swenson, and Tami (Daryl) Comstock; Grandchildren: Heidi (Jeff) Larson, Marty (Ericka) Espe, Kristina Peterson, Paula (Jay) Lewis, Kate Streifel, Maria (Farhad) Peterson-Ahmad, Gwen (Tom) Summers, Tracey Regimbal, Rob (Mike) Giffen, Travis (Desiree) Giffen, Corey Swenson, Garret (Sheila) Swenson, Sabrina (Shawn) Phelps, Ashley Olson, Jordan Brateng, Austin Brateng; Great-grandchildren: Brock, McKenzie, Sophie, Clara, Jon, Annie, Kristopher, Kaleb, Leighton, Allie, Camryn, Bea, Caden, Reid, Shelby, Brynn, Ella, Autumn, Evangeline, Avalynn, Chastity, Callie, Cadence, Logan, Walker, Mason, Mia, Kieryn, Blakley, and one more coming in 2021; Great-great Grandchildren: Owen, Ryan, Maren, and three more coming in 2021; sister-in-law: Pat Hervey; brother-in-law: Dale Peterson; numerous nieces and nephews as well as special friends and neighbors.
