Davis Donovan was the son of William and Frances "Fanny" Donovan of Greene County, Virginia. Davis was born in Greene County and later moved to Rockingham County, where he married Louisa Owens. After Louisa's death, Davis married Sarah "Sallie" Donovan, of Rockingham County, daughter of John O. and Amy Donovan. Davis and Louisa are buried in an unmarked grave in the old section of Singers Glen Cemetery, per records of J. Robert Swank.
