Betty Pauline Brown was born September 5, 1932 on the Rasmussen Homestead in Republic County, Kansas to Homer Lewis and Myrtle Josephine Strom Cardwell. She died on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas after a long illness. She was 75 years and 27 days of age.

Pauline, as everyone knew her, attended Pleasant Grove District No. 61 rural grade school and graduated from Scandia High School. She was a charter member of the Sherdahl Boosters 4-H Club, Rainbow Girls at Belleville, Girl Scouts, and she was active in pep club, class plays, and band.

On November 4, 1951, she married Eugene Daniel Brown, Jr. and moved to Mitchell County. Six children were born: Donald Eugene, Betty Arlene, Daniel Ray, Joseph Paul, James Robert, and Jerry Lew.

Pauline was active in Mitchell County Extension work and a member of the Pleasant View E.H.U., serving as President many years for club and council. She enjoyed craft day, state workshop and banquets. She was a member of the G&G Club for many years. In addition, she served as an advisor of the Mitchell County FSA Board and was a member of the Pleasant View Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Naomi Chapter No. 28 Order of Eastern Star, celebrating 50 years in April, 2000. Pauline and her family were Charter members of the Triangle Boosters 4-H Club and held many offices. She enjoyed participating in the activities of The Red Hat Society. Pauline worked at the Mitchell County Hospital for 18 years as a nurse's aide and in housekeeping.

Pauline's hobbies were knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She loved making things for her children, grandchildren and friends. She made many sweaters, hand towels, and dishcloths, entering her beautiful handiwork in local fairs, She enjoyed helping with farm work, hauling grain, and where ever she was needed. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her chocolate cake and cinnamon popcorn with family and friends. Her cinnamon rolls were always a big hit especially with the visiting hunters.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son James Robert Brown, and her sister Shirley Rae.
